Social security coverage is divided into two provisions:
- Ìý
•ÌýÌýÌýÌý GSIS, Government Service Insurance System, for Filipino Government employees
- Ìý
•ÌýÌýÌýÌý SSS, Social Security System for private sector employees
Based on each employee's gross monthly pay, both the employer and employee remit monthly contributions to the SSS/GSIS. In turn, the benefits cover maternity, retirement, sickness, disability, death and pension benefits.
Social security is discussed at 2.2.1. Additionally, there is coverage for medical care under the PhilHealth system (2.2.2) and there is a savings and housing mutual fund, Pag-IBIG fund (2.2.3).
