In Mexico, most employers provide their employees with vales de despensa, or grocery/food coupons, as part of the monthly remuneration. It is not a compulsory requirement for employers to do so but it is common practice.
Vales de despensa are an accepted form of currency in supermarkets, gas stations, and even restaurants.
