There is no legal requirement for employers to pay sick pay in addition to that which may be received by the employee from the Social Security Department (which is described in more detail below). However, contractual sick pay is nonetheless common (at least within the financial and other professional service sectors). Any provisions regarding contractual sick pay should be included in a contract of employment.
Short Term Incapacity Allowance (STIA) may be paid by the Jersey government to staff who cannot work due to illness or injury subject to a medical certificate to that effect.
