The Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG) has published the government’s response to the 11 recommendations from the Competition and Markets Authority’s (CMA) study into housebuilding, along with additional proposed actions to improve the market for consumers. The government acknowledged the need for significant market reform, while recognising the important role of larger developers in housing delivery. It agreed with the CMA's submission that the housebuilding market is not delivering well for consumers, emphasising that reform is essential to deliver homes at the required scale, pace, and affordability. The government also intends to publish a long-term housing strategy, outlining the changes needed to ensure the housing market operates in the public interest.
