The Rules on Professional Conduct applied by the Solicitors Regulation Authority (‘SRA’) have become increasingly less prescriptive since 2007 and there is no longer a specific reference to gifts by will to will drafters. However, the principle remains that those regulated by the SRA must not take advantage of their position.
The Solicitors’ Code of Conduct 20071 from the SRA requires solicitors to advise clients who wish to make significant2 gifts to:
