Decree absolute definition

What does Decree absolute mean?

The final order in divorce proceedings that formally dissolves a valid marriage,

6 weeks and 1 day from the date of pronouncement of the decree nisi the Petitioner can apply for the decree nisi to then be made absolute (for the marriage then to be dissolved). The Respondent can apply for the decree absolute 3 months from the date on which the Petitioner could first apply but must apply on notice to the Petitioner for the decree absolute.
