Bona vacantia definition
What does Bona vacantia mean?
Bona vacantia arise as the result either of a company being dissolved and its assets not fully distributed or as the result of a person dying intestate with no person entitled to their estate. Bona vacantia belong to the Crown. In contrast to escheat, the estate itself passes to the Crown rather than being determined. Bona vacantia are administered by the Treasury Solicitor.
