Message from our President, Bill

"Seems to have been a short summer break, yes, it was short, we finished two weeks later than usual and will start two weeks early. Our first meeting of the 2014/15 session will be on Thursday 4th September at 11am. Arriving by ten o'clock allows time for a drink and a chat with other members. I understand that the unofficial motto of the Special Air Service is 'Learn by other people's mistakes'. We get together, discuss our own highs and lows and allow others to profit from our experience. (continued under 'read more')

'End of term' for our HELP meetings until September 4th!

Our 'end of term' meeting was a lively one, with good attendance and some interesting discussions. Our organisation has been well used by the British Consulate and the local Hospital, with many people in need of help and advice. An increasing number of people are sliding into trouble for various reasons and are coming to us for help. Sadly, as lovely as the sun is, our health can still fail and plans need to be made for the future. But we wish everyone a lovely summer, be it in Spain or other parts, and look forward to seeing all our members again when we meet again from September 4th!

European Union Day, Finestrat 10th May 2014

EU Day Finestrat

We celebrated European Union Day in Finestrat on 10th May 2014. We had a stand along side many other European residents, where we had Lemon curd and a selection of baked goodies. Our neighbours were the Scots, who brought Haggis, Neeps and Tatties - with Whisky and Tablet ( a kind of fudge) and of course Shortbread. A wonderful time was had by all, including the local Spanish residents!

Last meeting before the Summer break - 12th June 2014

Our last meeting before the summer break will be held on Thursday, 12th June 2014. But HELP continues to give a service throughout the year, so if you need us, call one of the telephone numbers on the Contacts page as normal. We will try our best to be there for you if you need us! Keep an eye on our site for news of various social events that will be taking place during the summer months, and we hope to see you all again in September.

International Day, 30th March 2014 at La Nucia Sports Centre

International Day3.JPG

On the 30th March, an International day was held at the Sports Centre in La Nucia, and we were invited to have a stand to promote Help International. The day was very well organised and over 8,000 people attended throughout the day.

A bagpipe band from Scotland opened the day at 11 o'clock - imagine the pride for all the British people there. We were entertained throughout the day from many different countries with their own traditional dances and songs.
We were able to talk to other charities, thereby encouraging integration - a good day all round.
