WIBC Guest talk 1

Suzanna Mace was our guest speaker at our Help Meeting on the 24th of April.

Suzanna is the President of the WIBC (Women in Business Club). This organisation is a social and business networking club for women.

Not all members are in business, just women that mean business. The WIBC also raise funds for victims of domestic violence. They constantly highlight this problem and Spain now has a national 24 hour helpline for advice and support. The number is 016 and there are operators who speak in 6 different languages, English being one.

Emaus Children’s home in Relleau. March 11 2008

Emaus 1

We continue to sponsor the Emaus Children’s home in Relleau. We are now into our second year and it is still a joy to bring so much pleasure to the children’s lives. On the 11th of March we visited the eleven children and brought Easter eggs for each child. The staff at the home had also requested new summer bedding for the children and we also came laden with a dozen new bed sets and pillows!. The children recognize us and trust us and we are continually covered in kisses and lots of hugs, it really is a joy to visit. The staff are most welcoming and coffee and cake is always provided.

Easter Party. February 14 2008

Easter 2008 1

Our annual Help Christmas party was cancelled last year due to unforeseen circumstances. Instead we held an Easter Party on Friday 14th of March.

Almost 100 Help members attended the Easter party, held at the new La Nucia community centre. Food and drink was in abundance from potato salad to fruit cake. Most was home-made and provided by certain members.

Our entertainment was ‘home-grown’ this year. What a variety! The acts consisted of singing, dancing, poetry reading to the playing of castanets. There were certainly a few stars amongst our members.

AGM. January 2008

AGM 2008

AGM. Our AGM was held early this year on the 31st of January 2008. Due to circumstances our President Sue Ruela resigned before the AGM. Sue really was a great asset to Help and worked tirelessly to assist all sorts of diverse and critical situations that we now have to deal with in Benidorm. Sue will be missed very much and we wish her all the best. Ann and Josie too had decided to step down from the' Memberships' task and resign from the committee.

Breast Scanner Appeal. January 23 2008

A coffee morning at Camping Villama, in aid of the Breast Scanner Appeal on the 23rd of January, raised over 2000 euros. Help and the Companions social club, along with many helpers, worked very hard to ensure the day went well raising these funds. Help Benidorm donated a further 500 euros to this appeal.

Help Fundraiser. November 2007

The Help Benidorm fundraiser took place in Camping Villamar in November 2007. Once again we raised in excess of 1000 euros which will be used for our Christmas party sometime in December. We would like to thank Camping Villamar for the use of their facilities each year and also big thank you to all those who were involved with the organization of the fete, those who donated gifts, who helped on the day and especially to all of you that came along and spent your money!

Trip to Marbella October 2007

Marbella Trip 2007 1

Help thoroughly enjoyed a five day trip to Marbella during October 2007. We also visited Torremolinas, Gibralter, Malaga, The Rhonda Valley and Nerja caves. From all of us that participated in the trip, we would like to say a very big thank you to Sue Ruela, who worked very hard to organize the trip and acted as one of the tour guides. We would also like to give thanks to Eliza, from Bancaja, who donated a considerable sum of money towards the cost of the trip.

International Women's Day March 8 2007

Caroline's Stall

Help promoted their organisation at this event which was held at the Marriot Hotel, in Denia. We would like to thank the organisers for the donation of our free stand.
The day was a great success and well attended. The various business stalls were of great interest and the all day entertainment was well received.

AGM 22 February 2007

Our recent AGM was well attended. Four committee members stood down, Trish Shearer - Treasurer, Chris Patmore - Equipment Hire, June Banford - Membership Assistant and Jean Barber. The members thanked them for all of their hard work.

A warm welcome to our two new committee members, Brian - Equipment Hire and Josie Pearce - Membership Co-Ordinator.

We have had a very busy year with Help. Many of the committee were new and they settled very quickly into their new roles. The demand for Interpreters has been very high since hospitals and surgeries requested interpreters at all appointments. So also the need for home visits and transport drivers have risen.
